چکیده

Abstract. Accurate precipitation estimation with weather radars is essential for hydrological and meteorological applications. The differential reflectivity (ZDR) a crucial radar measurement that helps to improve quantitative estimates using polarimetric radars. However, system bias between the horizontal vertical channels generated by produces an offset in ZDR. Existing methods calibrate ZDR measurements rely on intrinsic values of natural targets (e.g. drizzle or dry snow) collected at high elevation angles higher than 40∘ even 90∘), which close 0 dB are expected. not all systems can scan such point antenna vertically collect passing overhead. Therefore, there need develop new lower-elevation scans. In this work, we present analyse novel method correcting monitoring quasi-vertical profiles computed from scans 9∘ elevations. applied data through 1 year events two operational C-band UK. proposed shows relative error 0.1 when evaluated against traditional approach based 90∘ Additionally, independently assessed disdrometers located near sites. results showed reasonable agreement disdrometer-derived radar-calibrated measurements.

Above Ground Biomass estimation from SAR vertical reflectivity profiles

First attempts for the estimation of above ground forest biomass (AGB) by means of SAR, have used allometric equations to calculate biomass from the estimated PolInSAR forest height. However, changes in forest density or structure bias the known allometric relations. Today, remote sensing systems like SAR are able to measure additional parameters like vertical forest structure [1] [2]. In this ...
